Technology is now become a integral part of our life. It is important to consider your child's health during the online classAs a parent, the below questions were keep on pondering on your mind. Does your child really benefit from online teaching? Do you feel the online learning  necessary for your child? Do you think the online class also falls under the category of screen time? Does it causes the eye strain problem? Does the online teaching really keeps your kid engaging? Does it creates the stress both for the child and the parent? 

Due to the current pandemic situation, the educational institutions across the globe conduct the online classes and keep engaging their children. It provides a virtual school environment where the students can interact with their teachers virtually. The virtual online school has both the advantages and  disadvantages.

Now-a-days children have grown up with a different types of electronic gadgets such as smart phones, tablets, iPad, smart television and the internet. A child spends about 3 to 8 hours for an online school and then the child spends the time by watching television or playing games in the mobile phones. They spend too much of time in these electronic gadgets. The too much use of screen time leads to behavior problem, sleep problem, obesity and so on. It might causes damage to the child's health.

Most of the parents wants to engage their child during this pandemic situation. So, the parents enroll their kid in the online extra curricular activities other than the regular virtual class. The parents also looking for an online tutor for arts, dance, music and so on. So, it is the right time for a parent to think whether the online class is necessary or not.

A proper way of online learning doesn't creates the stress both to the parent and child. A prolonged class make the child to get bored and it is also not good for your child's health. If you feel that your child spends more than 5 hours/day for a online class then it is your responsibility to talk to the school management. A prolonged screen time affects your child's health.

The school management must plan a proper schedule for an online teaching. The time table must be designed in a way that the students are not stressed by the continuous class. Read on the following tips.

1. There must be a  interval of 30 to 40 minutes between the virtual classes.
2. The art class such as drawing, dance can be included in their time table so that it would keep the child engaging and happy.
3. The 2 to 3 hours of class per day is much sufficient for the child. 
4. Apart from the regular syllabus. the teacher can help the student with the DIY activities, story telling, coloring and so on. 
5. It is better to avoid the online learning for a kinder garden child.
The school management should consider the health aspects of the children and they should not conduct the class beyond 4 hours per day. The parent also can give their suggestions and opinions to the school management.

Tips to follow during an online class

1. Do a eye exercises regularly
2. Reduce the screen brightness
3. Change the display setting to blue light filter mode
4. keep the ice cubes on the eyes for 2 mins
3. Use the anti-glare glasses
4. Do a 10 mins of meditation after each class
5. Give your children a plenty of fluids
6.  Follow the 20-20-20 rule. It means focus on something for every 20 minutes for a 20 seconds at a 20 feet away
7. Follow a digital detox per day in a week. It refers to a period of time during which a person refrain using the electronic gadgets

The eye strain and dry eye problems are faced by most of the children. The eye exercise helps to improve the child's eyesight. It also improves the focus and concentration. Read on the eye exercise to avoid the eye strain problem.

1.Blinking  

 Blinking keeps the front surface of your eye moist. It minimizes the chances of dry eye.

2. Rest Breaks

It is good to allow 15 mins break after a hour of continuous usage of electronic gadgets. The regular breaks between the system usage helps to avoid the eye strain problem.

3. Eye Rotation exercise

This is very simple exercise. Rotate the eye in the clockwise direction and then blink and then rotate the eye in the anti clockwise direction. Do it for 5 to 10 times.

4. Eye Shifting exercise

Hold a pencil a few inches away from your eye. Now focus on the pencil. Then slowly move the pencil away from your face by holding your focus. Then shift your focus for a moment, into the distance. Now focus on the outstretched pencil and slowly bring it back towards the eye. This eye shifting exercise helps to get relieve from a digital eye strain.


Screen and seating position

The improper screen position and the seating position causes the neck pain and shoulder pain. The position of your system is based on the screen height, viewing distance and viewing angles. The seating position should be comfortable so that it minimizes the chances of neck and shoulder pain. The screen of electronic gadgets can be positioned based on 1/2/10 rule. It means that the mobile phones should be positioned at 1 foot, desktop at 2 feet and TV screens at 10 feet.

Due to this pandemic situation, there is transition from regular class to online class. It is the challenging phase for the both the parents and teachers. It is important to take care of child's health as they are owing to the prolonged  screen time.
